National Cold Asphalt introduced the manually operated chip spreader - Chippy™ - for the application of road stone aggregates
during 2014. This manual based method of road surfacing is now well
proven and is being used very successfully in the upgrading of gravel roads to surfaced standard,
as well as in the application of single and double seals for new roads and for maintenance
of existing road networks.
Depending on the nature of the project, up to 65 job opportunities are
created around the surfacing process alone. Roads used to surfaced using very specialised mechanical equipment requiring highly skilled
operators. This left few opportunities for local unskilled
people. The Chippy™ method however, is very suitable for use by local authorities and in-house teams can be trained to use the equipment and methodologies. For more information please contact us.
National Cold Asphalt has received many accolades and recognition for this development throughout
the road surfacing industry, including the Southern African Bitumen Association “Award for Excellence”.
